The direct flight between Tenerife and New York will operate again from this Friday.



The route will link three times a week in each direction the Newark Libertad International airport with the Tenerife South airport

The American airline United Airlines will operate a direct route between Tenerife and New York from June 9 with a total of 13,400 seats while the connection is maintained, scheduled until September 27.

The route will connect three times a week in each direction the Newark Libertad International Airport with Tenerife South, as reported by the Tenerife Council, so that on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays it will depart from New York, and on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, from the island.

The duration of the flight will be six hours and fifty minutes and will be carried out using a B757-200 aircraft with 169 seats.

The acting president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, highlighted in a statement "the consolidation of this connection after the excellent occupancy records last year, close to 90 percent", and anticipates that "if the good occupancy data is repeat this year, it is expected that in 2024 the flight will have an annual schedule ».

He also advances that a new direct flight from the east coast of Canada could be confirmed in the coming weeks, for which Turismo de Tenerife has been working on in recent months.

26,507 travelers from the United States

Last year a total of 26,507 travelers from the United States arrived on the island, 55% more than in 2019, before the pandemic, and these figures have had to do, in large part, the direct flight operated in the months from June to September by United Airlines, assures the Cabildo.

In both cases they have arrived via connecting flights from the cities of Madrid, London, Lisbon and Casablanca, with which airlines operate, connecting them, in turn, with different points of origin in North America.

Tenerife as a destination in North America

Within this trend of consolidation in this market, Tenerife is already among the destinations offered by the different brands of the American tour operator Apple Leisure Group Vacations, such as Apple Vacations, Funjet Vacations, Travel Impressions and United Vacations, which are marketed directly through travel agencies in the United States.
